Money worries put a constant strain on us, a stressor that is unrelenting, one that plays on several parts of our personality and psyche. There will be many a time when we will go to bed, hoping we have enough to make it through the week. Let’s not mention the understood – but never spoken about – fact that your next financial disaster is just around the corner. With all these worries, and the pressure that society puts on us to be productive, it’s no wonder that many questions that come to us will be about money concerns either directly or indirectly. Fortunately for us, this is not a new fear. Since time immemorial, there have been people who have more and people who don’t have enough. There are several aphorisms for wealth in both nativities and horary charts that can be used to help look into your own predicament.
The second house is of pivotal importance in these questions. This house relates specifically to wealth and what we’re likely to attain. If someone asks a generic “will I be rich, yes or no” type of question, then we’re playing a weighing game with the second house. What planet rules it? What planets are in it? What’s their nature? Benefics nurture wealth and malefics deny it. A more general rule of thumb is the more dignified the second house ruler is, the more likely the querent will attain wealth. House position is also important as angular planets are more likely to fulfill what they promise, however, succeedant planets can be good signs too, as long as that planet is swift in motion. Heaven help you if the second house lord is slow or retrograde in a cadent house.
Should your querent be lucky enough to have a chart that does seem to suggest they’ll have some money, you can delve a bit further to see from where it will come. To do this you have three significators; second house lord, the moon, and the Part of Fortune. The astrologer must judge which of the three is the significator of substance, basically, which one is in the best shape and makes the most good aspects to have a sufficient argument for itself. See what house this planet falls into, and that’s the area of life the money comes from. Conversely, should the chart come out saying that the querent will not attain wealth, look to see what planet most afflicts the significator of substance and see what house it rules. This will show why that person won’t have money or the thing hindering their ability to acquire it. Special attention gets paid to the South Node’s location in this question, as its location generally shows us where misfortune grows.
