I can never say enough about the lessons of Astrology gained by working with Horary. It is my microcosmic world that proves to me over and over that Astrology is not just legitimate, but the sucker works. All that I have learned I have been able to apply to other branches of Astrology. It has been the most enlightening to me in working with relationships. We have all of the ingredients for both individuals and it looks compatible…. and then you take into account how dignified (strong, joyous, or weak) a planet actually is. Think of it like a recipe, we all start out with the same ingredients but the potency and the amount vary from recipe to recipe. A Pisces Mars (in detriment) like a dash of chili powder and a Capricorn Mars a fire roasted Jalapano…. both Mars, both peppers, both at different potency (dignity) and then we can look for accidentals and receptions and the recipe changes and changes. Sigh, Cancer Moon, I love to talk food.
Back to the Horary mention. If I see something is used in Horary, I will automatic believe it can be used to understand Natal Astrology better. I got a reminder of that yesterday when looking at a Natal and ignoring the dignities…. and what a world of difference did it make when it was pointed out. I recently acquired “Simple Horary” by Ivy Goldstien- Jacobson. I am so enjoying the book. I did notice how often Deb Houlding of Skyscripts mentions her in the house rulership article, and assumable in her book, Temples of the Sky. Over and over was the mention of Parallels and the importance to use them in horary. Often they are the very thing to bring perfection, when there is nothing else. She gives the Parallel from a VOC moon to the POF to keep it from being VOC. How powerful the parallels seem…. hmmm and it makes sense, in a three dimensional way… cause they are conjunct then. Contra Parallels she never mentions, having both sides of the equator used in a conjunct. Okay, we can apply them in Natal, can see that. Have noticed websites (sure because of the programs they use that automatically kicks the info out) are now using them with transits. I get them in my email all of the time, ooooh watch out for pluto parallel anything, cause Pluto is our boogyman. The Magi… they use Parallels in synastry… and it started to make sense, not the magi silly girly named links, but it can be used! (note on Magi, I haven’t studied enough to comment one way or the other, but they definitely are on to something we have long forgot) When you can not find that spark in a synastry, bet it is there in the parallels.
So I went through all of my old relationship chart of friends and family. I didn’t see a reason to actually bother looking for a link in the parallel Universe (HA I so wanted to say that) and I looked at the more personal ones, my own that I had chances and often years to pour over and dissect. They all had nice tying links that would bring two individuals together for a relationship. I had one, I almost went and looked, but found lots of antiscions that explained away the attraction. Then I did find one that had all of the markers of a great relationship, but I never got passed the first date, I just didn’t like him. It was like all the signs of life were there, but the breath of God to create it never touched it. I went to the Parallels and found NONE… ZIP…. NADA. Now I have to go back and look at the other good synastrys and see what the parallels are doing in there. How do we know which is more important in synastry now? Aparently it was equal in Horary. The confusion sets in…. but I need to dizzy myself some more it seems. I found out using Astro.com (the only program I use) that I can create Composites and Davidson’s both and read the parallels from their free PDF page. The sample that I used was overwhelming. I was using the chart information of a dear friend. Our synastry chart reads bleh…. good enough, but it always puzzled me why my feelings ran stronger than the synastry would have suggested.
The Composite was good, as was the Davidson, but there were few points that would go back to the synastry as a tie in. So, I start thinking…. maybe I have always put too much into Astrology… you know, that is a very very sad thought to me. That somehow I twisted years of learning into fitting, instead of it was natural. It was like imagining Cinderella’s step sister fitting into that tiny slipper… I will make it fit!!! So I took that chart and looked at the parallels… OMG there are so many, and they are tight, not even a half degree apart. After smugly rejoicing in having saved Astrology single handed and a relief there was a reason for stronger feelings than the synastry had shown, I went to the Composite and Davidson Parallels. Again, it was a Plethora (WOOT, knew I would find a way to use that word) of parallels, all the same degree as the synastry parallels. So my faith in Astrology once again restored. And that rouge Aquarius Venus of mine has some hope again. It never seems to get any attention other than a square here and there, and now it gets all it wants with 22 degrees of Declination!
