There is a saying…. “When in trouble, we turn to God and Astrology”. Many times a person will look to others for their answers when life becomes overwhelming.
Astrologers (and psychics, etc) often are sought out when a person is at wit’s end on trying to find their path in life. We sometimes see someone just once, when they are at a crisis moment. The desperation is obvious when it happens. A trap is set for those Astrologers that may not have come to terms with their own egos. There is an awesome responsibility to stay objective and to put our own morals aside. And there is the danger of self inflicted prophecy.
Horarist are probably the most obvious. This is because the Querent (client) is asking a direct question. Most times the questions involve relationships. You will see it time and time again on online forums, when a horary is asked about a lost item, a situation where the out come is known or will be known, no one will attempt to answer. But if the question involves a relationship and the person is at a cross roads, out comes the Astrological Dr. Lauras of the world. (For those of you fortunate enough not to know who this is… she is a radio personality psychologist that is very conservative and advice always falls on the doctrines of established religious imposed morals.)
All of a sudden it is forgotten that everything under the Sun is in the chart, and instead they read into it what they think the desired outcome should be based on their own life dramas instead of an Astrological foundation. So as they tell the client it won’t work out… well the client stops trying! A self fulfilled prophecy. Many times in the case that the horary proves wrong, the same Astrologers will quickly chime in that the Querent asked the question wrong. That is definitely a point to stop working with that particular Astrologer. When working with receptions and terms and such, there seems to be a delight sometimes in saying…”he does not like you, no reception” instead of looking at the situation…”he is in a position not to act or you are not a factor in the situation”.
I recently had a horary that a friend did for me and it was put online for comments, as we did not understand what two of the planets were doing and the receptions to them. Immediately came out the moral police and the unasked for advice. I was in the turned 12th and had no receptions. That right there answered my question, it was a no to the situation as I am hidden and receiving nothing… I was not even a factor in the decision of what I asked. There were other 12th house issues involved that I did not disclose, so in all fairness… they would not have been looked for by the Astrologer…. but, that also tells me the unsolicited advice was not applicable and that there is a danger when the Astrologer feels that they are all knowing and are in the position to tell someone how to live their own lives.
Astrology will at some point have us question free will vs destiny. I don’t think I would ever let someone else decide that for me. It is too big a question to fathom. In that same vein, I don’t think an Astrologer is wise to give advise… they should only disclose what is seen in the chart and even then, admit that they are not all knowing and could easily have missed something. In my charts case, an intercepted 1st and 7th house was not noticed… and the signs intercepted had the lord for the other person….. yeah, there is the reception and blatantly, and the ability not to act in that one particular situation. I asked about one particular event, not the entire “relationship”…. I was answered in such a way as to say the “relationship” was not good for me nor the person. I didn’t ask that question! And those are decisions that I would have to make and can not understand how someone could feel so confident as to step into “God’s domain” deciding to chime in on someone else’s “destiny” and karmic growth.
So when do you not listen to the Astrologer? When the answer is advice instead of Astrological “facts”. And when they have already decided the outcome and then look to the chart to confirm it… the narrowness of the mind will not see all the possibilities.
